The Sapphire in-office tooth whitening procedure is performed using 35% H2O2 gel applied to your teeth. The sapphire light activates the gel and propels the stain removal process. bleach formulation that absorbs light in the blue end of the spectrum, which becomes excited and attack the colored compounds that form stains on teeth. The tooth structure is thus not damaged in the process.
The Sapphire teeth whitening session takes about 30-45 minutes, but it is recommended that patients have a normal teeth cleaning session done before the Sapphire procedure. Thick gel is placed on the teeth for 10 minutes while the light is activated three times, so teeth are exposed to the light for a total of 30 minutes.
In-office bleaching (also known as chair-side whitening or professional whitening) such as Sapphire Whitening uses a high concentration whitening gel, so results are visible straight after the whitening process is completed.
Tooth and gum sensitivity is quite common a couple of hours after in-office whitening, but it normally doesn’t last longer than 48 hours. The intensity of the Sapphire System is adjustable in order to keep the patient comfortable, and 99% of patients don’t experience sensitivity afterwards. Ibuprofen can be taken if there is any sensitivity post procedure
Results will vary from person to person depending on how stained the teeth were before the whitening process, but you can expect a smile that will whiter with the Sapphire Whitening System after one 30 minute visit!
Remember that in-office teeth whitening always produces faster results, and that is still the safest form of tooth bleaching as it takes places with your dentist by your side and therefore in a monitored and controlled environment.
